The Australian Copyright Council launched their report on the Economic Contribution of Australia's Copyright Industries 1996-97 to 2010-11 at a function in Canberra attended by the Attorney-General the Hon Nicola Roxon MP.

The Report has found that copyright industries comprise a substantial proportion of the Australian economy. It shows that traditional copyright industries have been challenged by the move to digitisation and general economic factors such as the demand for Australian natural resources and the high Australian dollar. The report also acknowledges the need for an appropriate regulatory model to support the innovation and sustainable growth of copyright industries.
